Take A PINK Moment: Breast Cancer Month

The best protection is early detection.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) (National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) in America) is an international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness, offer information, support those affected by the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention and cure.

BCAM also reminds women to be breast aware for earlier detection. Mammograms and regular check-ups take only a few minutes but can save a woman's life from pain and early death.

The Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is one such charity. It was born from Nancy G. Brinker's promise to do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever in the name of her dying sister, Susan G. Komen. 1982 saw that promise launched a global breast cancer movement called Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. The charity has invested well over $1 billion, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world. For more information about Susan G. Komen for the Cure, breast health or breast cancer, visit http://www.komen.org/ or call 1-877 GO KOMEN.

There are a number of ways you can get involved.

1. Bring your friend, family or yourself in for a mammogram and a check up. It's just a few minutes but it goes a long way to saving lives. Remember, the best protection against breast cancer is early detection.

2. Donate time, money and support. Go online and visit sites like The Pink Ribbon International or find local branches of Breast Cancer movements you can give your support to.

3. Educate. Bring yourself and people around you to awareness about what breast cancer is and what you can do to help fight against it.
